Fermented Photos at IDA
A new selection of images will be on display on IDA 4. - 17. June.
In "Fermented Photos", Poulsen works with found and purchased slides, which are significantly changed through long-term chemical treatment with various chemicals. The process involves a controlled chaos, where loss of control and coincidences are central elements – just like our own memory, which changes over time. By delving into the emulsion and colour layers of the film layer, visual fragments emerge where colours and elements have been eroded, and where wear, scratches and imprints from neighbouring images stand out more clearly. The result is images that are no longer precise representations, but become painterly expressions – a physical and aesthetic interpretation of the passage of time and the transience of memory.
Claus Poulsen, who lives in Copenhagen, is known as an experimental musician and visual artist. For more than 20 years, he has worked with chemical degradation of slides, a technique he has developed and refined without external sparring to achieve a personal and unique expression. Over the years, the results have found their way into record covers and releases for both their own and others' releases. It was not until the autumn of 2024 that the work was shown to the public at the solo exhibition "A World in Dissolution", where Poulsen's experimental approach to images and memory is at the centre.
This exhibition is open for all IDA members.
